It might have worked if he had Wrath of God in it. Win 2-0 The 2nd roundFrom Shrines to Snakes, I lost the second game because I drew nothing but land and Shrapnel Blasts. Win 2-1 The 3rd roundVial Affinity finally. I won the second game with good, old Furnace Dragon. Win 2-0 The 4th roundIt was against another rogue W/G/B deck. One the first game, I was able to play my entire hand on the first turn. The second game, I lost because again I drew nothing but land. The third game I won by Echoing Truth back his Ghostly Prisons. The sideboard definitely needs two more of them. Win 2-1 The 5th roundThe last round was against Tooth and Nail. I won the second game with an Echoing Truth but lost the other two. Loss 1-2 Record: 4-1
Top EightI placed second for the day, and played against the rogue W/G/B deck again. He won the first game, but I came back and won the next two. Win 2-1 | | Saturday, November 20th, 2004 | | 9:03 pm |

No one has been playing this deck and I get stuck with the mirror match. I lost the first game, but he didn’t have a sideboard. I won the second two. Win 2 – 1. 2nd RoundTooth and Nail. On the first game, I made the mistake of playing Keiga, tapping myself out. He was able to play Mind Slaver, which emptied my hand of counter spells. The second game he was able to play Boseiju, Who Shelters All and it was game over. Loss 0 - 2. 3rd RoundTooth and Nail 2. Again Boseiju, Who Shelters All controls the day. Loss 0 – 2. 4th RoundIt was against some type of Darksteel Reactor deck. Keiga won both games with counters keeping any threats off the board. Win 2 – 0. Dropped out afterward. The entire field was just Tooth and Nail, or Ravager. Record: 2 – 2. | | Sunday, November 7th, 2004 | | 3:52 am |
Top Ten Reasons to Date a Magic Player TOP 10 REASONS TO DATE A MTG PLAYER1. Women are amazed that we use the word "priority" so often. 2. We have no preconceptions of kissing, having sex or doing things with girls, so you can train us the way you like. 3. You don't have to put up with our friends; we don't have any! 4. A magic player is usually good with their "hands"....5. He'll always ask 'okay?' after he says something, to make sure you don't want to counter. 6. They always announce when you're going to the next phase of the relationship. 7. (Insert a random joke about how they want to 'tap it') 8. Some are known to be good with the weenie rush. 9. Others like complete control. 10. When he says that he 'pumped' someone like Serra or Jeska, you know he's not cheating on you. | | 3:12 am |

He won the first game. I won the second game with an Auriok Champion equipped with a Bonesplitter. On the third game, I had the momentum to win, but lost when I drew five lands in a row. Loss 1 – 2 2nd RoundA new green/blue control deck. I won two games, but lost one again to a mana flood. In a deck with 20 land! Win 2 – 1. 3rd RoundA green/red deck. I lost the third game due to missing my third turn land drop and the chance to Arrest his Arc-Slogger before he could use it. Loss 1 – 2. 4th RoundA Blue control deck splashed with black. I won two games through speed. He won the second with Vedalken Shackles. Also, I got to see just how broken Sensei’s Divining Top really is! Win 2 – 1. 5th RoundIt was against another Green/Blue deck. I won two games through speed. He won one with a great use of Gifts Ungiven. Win 2 – 1. Record: 3 – 2. No top eight today. It was a fun deck but needs modifications. I’d replace the Raise the Alarm with either Pacifism or Arrest, and the sideboard needs four Damping Matrix. | | Saturday, October 23rd, 2004 | | 11:44 pm |

What would become the fault of my deck through-out the day, on the first game, I got no creatures to follow up for the kill. On the second game, I just got no land. Loss 0 – 2. 2nd RoundAgainst a mono-black deck, I just rocked. This was one of two matches that highlighted the MVP card of the day: Hammer of Bogardan! I wish I had had two in the deck. The recursion of this card just rocked with no one packing graveyard removal anymore. Win 2 – 0. 3rd RoundThe third round was a mirror match. On the first game, I destroyed the land and was able to drop the creature easily. On the second game, she controlled the game, and on the third game I again got no creature for the follow up kill. Loss 1 – 2. 4th RoundThe third round was against the new Black/Green decks. I lost the first game due to Kokusho, the Evening Star. On the second game, he got ever land card in the deck and every piece of land draw. Luckily, he didn’t get anything else, and I won. Again the Hammer of Bogardan shined here. On the third game, he got land screwed and I won again. Win 2 – 1 5th RoundIt was another mirror match. I won the first game with five pieces of land destruction. He won the second game just as easily. I won the third game with more land destruction and an Arc-Slogger. Win 2 - 1 6th RoundIt was against a White, Green, Blue deck. He won the first game with a Pristine Angel. The second game I won with mainly two Nexus. On the third game, again I controlled the game with land destruction, but, again, no creature was drawn for the kill. Loss 1 – 2 I dropped out, tired of the obvious fault of my deck, breaking even for the day, but finishing 41st out of 70 players. Record: 3 - 3 | | Sunday, October 17th, 2004 | | 7:05 am |

Last week the field was mainly burn and aggro, and I played this deck to beat that type of game. We had good games, but I finally: Lost 2 – 1 2nd RoundIt was against a Blue/Red Obliterate deck. I won the first game because he mulliganed to five cards, and I won third game through speed. Win 2 – 1 3rd RoundFinally a red deck. I won the first game and I won the third game with a Worship. Win 2 - 1 4th RoundAnother mono-red deck. I won both games quickly, the second through Worship again. Win 2 – 0 5th RoundIt was against a Ravager deck. I would have won the second game but he dropped two, free Myr Enforcers, pushing two Cranial Platings to twenty point for the win. Loss 0 - 2. The Top EightI was paired with the person I played in the first round and lost both games, but this time we didn't have to spilt a prize. I won the first and third game. He won the second game with a Circle of Protection: Red and Sacred Ground. Win 2 - 0 2nd RoundWhite Weenie deck! I actually wish I had played one because a lot of people were playing sigh. I won the first and third game, and he won the second with an Auroik Champion and Worship. Win 2 – 0 3rd RoundA Ravager deck that was geared to a control deck. It was a good choice in the current aggro-field. Loss 0 - 2 4th RoundTravers and I were paired, so we took a draw. 5th RoundThe last person didn’t want to draw, and he won quickly with a fast Ravager deck, making good use of Welding Jar. Loss 0 - 2 Record: 3 – 2 – 1. The Top EightThere were only sixteen players this week. I got paired with the same person from the fifth round. We spilt the prize, but he won the match again for the DCI points. Loss 0 – 2. | | Saturday, September 25th, 2004 | | 8:21 pm |

I suppose it wasn’t bad for not playing this format since July. Loss 2 – 0 2nd RoundIt was against a Ravager deck. The first game I got two shatter and two pyroclasm, clearing his board completely. The second game was a little harder. Win 2 – 0 3rd RoundIt was against a Zombie deck. I kept waiting for a Terror to destroy my Rorix Bladewing, but it never did. Afterwards, I asked, and he replied that he didn’t pack any. Win 2 - 0 4th RoundA black discard deck this time. The first game we both kept drawing land, but he eventually got a 9/9 Promise of Power token. However, creating it put him within range of my burn. I top-decked a Pulse of the Forge for the first game. For the second game, I won arc-slogging for four damage. Win 2 – 0. 5th RoundWe drew the fifth round so both of us would be in the top eight, which was a good thing. He was playing a white soldier deck with Auriok Champion and Worship. He won the game we played for fun easily. Record: 3 – 1 – 1. The Top EightIt was against Traver’s Ravager deck. I won the first game when he mulligan to five, but he won the second two games quickly. Both games were fairly quick wins. Win 2 – 0 2nd Round It was against a Tooth and Nail deck. Both games I just got poor draws. On the second game, he got the Bringer of the White Dawn and Mindslaver combination. The sideboard is going to change to better combat this deck. Loss 0 - 2 3nd Round It was against a new Goblin Bidding deck. Both games I just kept the red guys off the board with removal and counterspells. Win 2 - 0 4th Round It was against a land destruction deck. I was lucky to win these matches. On the second game, he dropped an early Slith Walker, but I won the third game. Win 2 – 1 5th Round We drew the fifth round so both of us would be in the top eight, which was a good thing. He won two practice games using a converted green/blue block deck. Record: 3 – 1 – 1. The Top EightIt was a mirror match, but I won both games with a Darksteel Pendant. On both games, his life went from twenty to zero in increments of two. New England Regionals White 4 Decree of Justice 4 Renewed Faith 4 Wrath of God 4 Akroma’s Vengeance 2 Altar’s Light 2 Pulse of the Fields 4 Eternal Dragon 3 Exalted Angel Artifact4 Damping Matrix 3 Chalice of the Void Land 14 Plains 4 Secluded Steppe 4 Cloudpost 2 Stalking Stones 2 Temple of the False God sideboard4 Duplicant 4 Silver Knight 4 Sacred Ground 3 Worship 1st RoundAdding Worship to the sideboard was a last minute addition, and it was definitely the game saver of the day. The first round was against Bidding-Goblin, and once I brought it in, I won the last two games. Win 2 - 1 2nd roundThe second round was against mono-red Goblins. He looked quite angry after the second game after he realized the token was an angel and not a solider and he couldn’t destroy my three creatures. Win 2 - 0 3rd roundIt was against the green/white cemetery deck. I just can’t win against this deck, even with deciding to add two Altar’s Light into the main deck on Friday night. Loss 2 – 0. 4th roundThis round was the most disappointing and frustrating one of the day. It was against Ravenager-Affinity, and I should have won it. But my deck just didn’t cooperate. In the first game I had all the cards in my hand to win. On the second turn I dropped the Chalice, but on the third turn I didn’t have a land and couldn’t play Damping Matrix. On his third turn he threw all his tokens onto a Blinkmoth Nexus to avoid a Wrath of God, and I had no way to get rid of the Nexus. For the second game, I could NOT draw a second source of white mana! Out of eighteen white mana producing lands! I had Cloudposts, both Temples, and only one white mana. Wasted two morphed Angels, waiting and waiting, only to have a Secluded Steppe show up the turn before I died. Loss 2 - 0 The 5th roundAnother mono-red Goblins deck. I lost the first game because I only drew two land, but I won the second two. The third game I had worship and a Silver Knight. He literally went from twenty life to zero by increments of two. Win 2 - 1 The 6th roundThe long mirror match against an Urzatron mono-white control. I won the first game with a Chalice of Void, dropping it so he couldn’t Pulse of the Fields, then I attacked with twelve soldier tokens. He won the second game through a well timed Mindslaver, wasting three of my Decree of Justice. We ran out of time before we could play the third. Tie 1 - 1 The 7th roundIt was against an Astral Slide deck! He won the first game, and I almost had the second game. But, he cast Decree of Annihilation then he waited until the clock ran out. Loss 1 – 0 The 8th roundMy opponent didn’t show up for this round, so after ten minutes, it was an automatic win. The 9th roundIt was against a mono-black cleric deck. He won both games incredibly quickly. Loss 2 -0 Afterwards, I decided to drop out, breaking even for the day. Record: 4 – 4 – 1. | | Saturday, April 24th, 2004 | | 7:52 pm |

I won the first game but lost the next two. On the second game, I mulligan down to five cards. On the third game, I made a stupid mistake and didn’t play Wrath of God when I should have. Loss 2 – 1 2nd roundIt was against an Elf deck. I haven’t seen one for awhile. I lost the second game because of his speed. Win 2 - 1 3rd roundIt was against another black/green cemetery deck. I lost the first game, then sideboarded in the wrong cards on the second game. Loss 2 - 0 4th roundIt was against an old white/red Isochron Scepter deck. He won the second game because of two Shrapnel Blasts. Win 2- 1 Record: 2 - 2 | | Saturday, April 17th, 2004 | | 9:23 pm |
Artificial White White4 Renewed Faith 4 Wrath of God 3 Akroma’s Vengeance 3 Decree of Justice 3 Wing Shards 2 Pulse of the Fields 4 Exalted Angel 4 Eternal Dragon Artifact4 Damping Matrix 3 Chalice of the Void Land 14 Plains 4 Secluded Steppe 4 Cloudpost 2 Stalking Stones 2 Temple of the False God sideboard4 Silver Knight 4 Circle of Protection: Red 3 Sacred Ground 3 Thought Dissector 1 Dimensional Breach The 1st RoundIt was against a combination of equipment/control mono-white deck. He won the first game, and then we ran out of time during the second one. I should have won it, but I made some mistakes. I couldn’t side in the Though Dissectors because he had so much equipment. I really need to work on playing the mirror match. Loss 0 - 1 The 2nd roundIt was against the new Tooth + Nail deck. It absolutely smoked me both games. There’s nothing I had in the deck against it. I need to change the sideboard to deal with it. Loss 0 – 2 The 3rd roundFinally, a Ravenger-Affinity deck! Win 2 – 0 The 4th roundAnother Ravenger-Affinity deck. Again, win 2 – 0 The 5th roundIt was against a mono-red deck with Goblin Charbelcher. On the first game I quickly dropped a Chalice of the Void with two counters; then, later, when he tried to recur Hammer of Bogarden, I dropped another Chalice of the Void with three counters. On the second game, I played a CoP: Red on the second turn and a Silver Knight on the third. Win 2 – 0. Record: 3 - 2 | | Saturday, April 10th, 2004 | | 9:37 pm |
Deck I Played This Week + Results White 4 Akroma’s Vengeance 4 Decree of Justice 4 Wrath of God 4 Pulse of the Fields 1 Renewed Faith 4 Exalted Angel 4 Eternal Dragon 4 Silver Knight Artifact4 Damping Matrix 1 Darksteel Colossus Land14 Plains 4 Secluded Steppe 4 Cloudpost 2 Stalking Stones 2 Temple of the False God sideboard4 Purge 4 Circle of Protection: Red 3 Sacred Ground 3 Altar’s Light 1 Myr Matrix The 1st roundIt was against Derek with a mono-red deck. I haven’t played in two weeks and made several stupid mistakes, like playing two morphed Exalted Angels early, only to have them shot by electrostatic bolts. Loss 2 – 0 The 2nd roundIt was against a white/blue control deck. Darksteel Colossus won both games! On the first game, he just looked at it then died. On the second game he side boarded in some wing shards, and I had to play around them. Win 2 – 0 The 3rd roundIt was a re-match with Colin’s White/Green deck. I won both games, the second game again being won by the indestructible Darksteel Colossus. The 4th roundThis time I played against Justin with his black clerics. I won the first game because he got land screwed. He skullclamped a ton of clerics and was discarding cards before he finally got beyond three lands. On the second game, he cast Death Cloud, but I was able to recover quicker. Win 2 – 0 The 5th roundGoblin Bidding finally appears. I lost the first game on the fourth turn! Nothing can be done when that happens, but I won the other two. Win 2 – 0 Record: 4 – 1 The Top EightThese were probably the best games of the day, against a Black/Green Cemetery deck. I won the first game, but he won the second game when he early de-morphed a Silent Specter. Silent Specter!! What the hell! He also won the third game with two Death Clouds and then the Specter. I should have sideboaded in the Sacred Ground instead of the Altar’s Light. Loss 2 – 1. | | Saturday, March 27th, 2004 | | 8:39 pm |

I lost the first game because I kept a bad hand. I won the second two games. Win 2 – 1 The 2nd roundAgainst a mono-black rat based deck, I won 2 – 0. The 3rd roundAgainst a mono-white control deck, I got mana screwed. During the first game, I drew nine lands. Nine lands! Out of only sixteen in the deck. On the second game, I couldn’t get any other colored land except black. Loss 0 - 2 The 4th roundIt was against another Ravager-Affinity deck. It used Genesis Chamber and Auriok Steelshaper. He had great sideboard tech, bringing in Grim Reminder and Tanglewalker, and he won the second game handily. I won the third game when I shattered his Vault of Whispers which destroyed his Glimmervoid too. He drew only a City of Brass after that. Win 2 – 1 The 5th roundIt was against a Goblin Bidding deck. I won the first game, but he won the second two games with Goblin Sharpshooter. Loss 0 – 2. Record: 3 - 2 Top EightI squeaked into the top eight at the eighth position. Win 2 - 0 The 2nd roundAgainst a Red Beats deck I lost the first game, but I won the second two games with Worship combined with, on the second game, Dawn Elemental and with a Silver Knight on the third. When he realized he couldn’t kill me he just picked up his board both times. Win 2 - 1 The 3rd roundI lost 2 – 1 to the new Ravenger Affinity. I won the first game, but on the second game he got a God draw and won by turn four. He won the third game with the Archbound Ravenger, throwing a ton of counters onto an unblocked creature. Loss 2 - 1 The 4th roundI lost both game quickly to Astral Slide/Lightening Rift. I honestly don’t know what to do to win against this deck. I don’t know what I could sideboard except the obvious Stabilizer. Even then, I don’t think it’ll be enough because this deck is now packing Damping Matrix too. Loss 2 - 0 The 5th roundIt was against another white weenie deck. I won 2 – 0. The 6th roundI lost both games to a green/red Beast deck. On the second game he had all the sideboard cards against me with Flashfires and Damping Matrix. Loss 2 - 0 Record: 3 - 3 | | Saturday, February 28th, 2004 | | 9:29 pm |
The Results
I went 3-3 which wasn’t bad for playing a dated deck with the “Darksteel” out. The 1st roundIt was against the new Goblin Bidding deck with Skullclamp. Goblins were fast before, but now with the card draw of skullclamp, you just need to draw a Patriarch Bidding to win. Loss 0 – 2. The 2nd roundIt was against some Type II Mind’s Desire deck. I don’t know how it worked because he never “went off.” Win 2 - 0 The 3rd roundIt was against a rogue mono-red deck. I lost the first game on my fourth turn but won the other two games with side board tech. Win 2 - 1 The 4th roundI lost against the other new archetype: Modular/Affinity. It uses Disciple of the Vault to combat board clearing effects, then cheap modular creatures, including the “hot” Archbound Ravenger; affinity cards; and Ornithopter! Loss 0 - 2 The 5th roundIt was against a white soldier deck that didn’t use equipment. Easy Win 2 – 0. The 6th roundOn the second game, I was at 2 life, had Sacred Ground in play, and finally had four lands to Wrath of God on the next turn, when I died to a molten Rain destroying one of my Urza’s lands. Loss 0 – 2. | | 1:40 am |

He won the first game on turn three! On the second, I didn’t draw any creatures, and he won with Stalking Stones. Loss 2-0 The 3rd roundIt was against a red/green deck. I lost the second and third game to Soul Foundry imprinted with a Blistering Firecat. I never drew Akroma’s Vengeance or a Circle when I needed them! It was against a black/white deck that was about eighty plus cards. On the third game, he didn't get any land. The 3rd roundWin 2 – 1. It was against a red/blue artifact based deck. It was the most original deck that I saw today and the best games. He won the second game by cycling Decree of Annihilation. On the third game, he hard cast the Decree, but I was able to come back. The 4th roundLoss 2 – 1. It was against an Affinity deck. On the third game, I got too much land and little else. The 5th roundLoss 2 – 0. It was a mirror match. On the first game, I again didn't get any land. On the second game, he won by cycling two Decree of Justice. | | Monday, November 17th, 2003 | | 12:44 am |
The 1st roundIt was against the same person I played last week in the first round. He was playing a tweaked version of his deck, but this time he won two games to one. Both games that he won he played Isochron Scepter imprinted with shock on the second turn. Nothing I can do about that. The 2nd roundIt was against a mono-red goblin and direct damage deck. I won the second game, but she won the first and the third game. The third game she won simply through too much damage and a Sulfuric Vortex. The 3rd roundIt was against a fairly new person with a blue/white flying deck. The Ensnaring Bridge pretty much shut him down both games. Win: 2- 0. The 4th roundIt was against some type of mono-red land destruction deck without any creatures. I think it used Seismic Assault for the kill. A recurring Rotlung Reanimator by Unholy Grotto was extremely useful here, pretty much stopping his Star Storms. Win 2 – 0. The 5th roundIt was against a Green/Red deck. He won both games with two Shrapnel Blast each game! Ten points of direct damage right there. Loss 0 – 2. Record: 2 - 3. I didn’t play the last round because my cold had really kicked in and my nose was just running and running. If the meta-game has shifted to a lot of direct damage, it’ll be time to change decks because black can’t deal with so much direct damage. |
